High Turnover Rate In Your Janitorial Department? A Few Resolutions That Can Help
Janitorial work is not for everyone. In fact, it is not surprising that your company would experience a high turnover rate in this department. However, that does not mean that your building should constantly sit in the wake of uncleanliness every time one of your janitors quits. Here are a few resolutions to this problem that can help you maintain a cleaner building with fewer janitorial staffing problems.
Engage Temp Services
Some temp companies provide a multitude of professionals for all kinds of services. Janitorial services are just one type of employee you can hire through the temp agency. The nice thing about hiring temps is that there are always people to fill the janitorial voids in your janitorial department.
Do away with Your Own Janitorial Department and Hire Professional Cleaning Services
When your final janitorial employee finally quits, disband that department completely. Then hire professional cleaning services to come in several times a week to clean. You no longer have to deal with employees quitting because you will have consistent cleaning services from a cleaning company.
Hire Three Separate Cleaning Crews and Put Them on Short Rotations
Sometimes it helps to have more than one or two crews working on the same tasks. It is possible to have three separate crews, all on rotation, so that no one gets bored and no one gets frustrated with having to do the same tasks on the same days over and over again. If you find out that your previous janitors were overwhelmed, bored, stressed out, and/or tired from when, how often, and how much they were working, perhaps you can convince them to come back on a new janitorial schedule. Then hire some new people to assist.
The Cost of Any of These Resolutions
The cost of temp services may be higher than what you pay your janitorial crews now. The cost of hiring professional cleaning services part-time is on par with what you would pay a full-time janitorial crew, but at least you know everything is clean, sanitized, and you can depend on the punctuality and timeliness of the services. Hiring additional janitorial staff and placing everyone on short rotations (e.g., three days on, three days off, etc.), will cost you just as much as if you had hired one professional cleaning service team indefinitely. In short, the cost all comes out about the same, with the exception of dependability and reliability.
